Savoy Autocentres have the equipment and experienced staff to inspect, diagnose and rectify problems with car and light commercial steering systems.
STEERING RACKS
There are two main types of steering racks; manual steering racks and power assisted steering racks. Both types can fail and need replacement. On the track rod part of the steering rack is a rubber “boot” which helps to keep contamination out of the steering rack. This boot can become damaged which may result in the steering rack eventually becoming worn out and potentially dangerous.
Steering racks may also develop oil leaks which can eventually lead to excessive wear in the steering rack.
TRACK ROD ENDS
Track rod ends are fitted to the end of steering rack to enable the wheel to turn. Track rod ends are not servicable components, when they have worn out they need replacing and your vehicle then needs its wheel alignment checking and adjusting if needed.
